Now a month and a half into things, and at least 70 hours of direct campaigning under my belt, I’ve gotten a good sense for the “frequently asked questions” people have about me and my campaign:

What is the deal with the cookie recipe?
My grandmother’s cookie recipe is prominently featured in many of my campaign materials, including on every flyer I leave at doors. My grandmother, whose own city council campaign is the main inspiration for my run, included the same cookie recipe on her materials because she told me, “Then folks won’t throw it away immediately.” She was a strategic genius, and all credit goes to her. I also think it is nice to offer a small gift and token of my gratitude to every household I visit—thanks for your support of my campaign and for believing in my vision for the future of West Jordan.
Aren’t you a little young for this?
I do get this question surprisingly often! I am in my mid-30s, which is the same as the average age of a resident of West Jordan. While I am younger than current members of our city council, I see that as a strength rather than a weakness. An effective council will include perspectives from different life stages, and as someone with young children of her own, my focus on keeping West Jordan a great place to raise a family is a great asset and an opportunity for the city. I’ll also point out that I have energy and enthusiasm that I want to put to work on the council–I have already walked almost 85,000 steps talking to voters. I won’t stop my community engagement once I am elected.
Why are you running for City Council?
The truth is, I have always known I wanted to run for city council. My grandparents were involved in their city council, and I want to serve. I have a family-focus to my long-term vision for West Jordan. I want West Jordan to keep being a great place to raise a family. In addition to that family focus, I’ll bring common sense budget priorities, plans for housing in our rapidly growing west side, and a vision for green space and parks.
What do you do professionally?
My professional resume is long! Currently, I work in marketing in Utah’s thriving Biotech industry with a company with US headquarters in Salt Lake City. I have also worked for the Utah State Legislature as a Legislative Fiscal Analyst as well as an analyst for the Utah Medical Education Council, where I focused on healthy government budgeting practices. I have worked in the non-profit sector doing Utah-based humanitarian work through the AmeriCorps program, Catholic Community Services and the Asian Association of Utah.
In another sense of the word, I am a professional pancake maker, toy picker-upper, and bed-time story reader to my two little boys.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better—I hope this gives you a clearer picture of who I am and why I’m running. The work of building a stronger, more family-focused West Jordan doesn’t stop at our doors, and it doesn’t happen alone. I’m ready to serve, but I need your support to make it across the finish line. So tell a friend, share a flyer (maybe even the one with a cookie recipe), and most importantly—make a plan to vote. Let’s do this together.
